Low RO Service Charge might be very costly

Sometimes we look for the service engineer with low service charges and do not focus on the cost of the parts he is charging for.

Everyone is willing to minimize the expenses so to look at the low service charge is not a bad habit. But one should never forget to focus on the cost of the spare parts as well.

Lets take an example. Suppose my RO Water Purifier has some technical problem. I called up 2 different service engineers. The visiting charges of one service engineer is 150/- and the another service engineer charges 350/-.

Most of the customer will go for the service engineer who charges 150/-. Now the service engineer visits and says that the Pump of RO is not working. He installs new pump and charges 2800/- as the cost of the new pump. He also takes away the Old Pump with him. Now there might be chances that the old pump was working properly and there was some other minor issue. He has even taken the old pump with him. Might be he would get that pump repaired and install it to other customer's RO and charge 2800/- again from him.

I am not saying that the engineer who charges high for services is always better. But the customer should also focus for the other things apart from the service charge only.

Below are some basic tips:

·         Ask for the price list of all the Spare Parts before the service engineer visits.

·         Confirm with the service engineer that he will not take back the old parts with him.

·         Confirm for the warranty period after service is done. So that if the same issue occurs again then you do not need to pay the service charges.

·         Take feedback from other customers of the servive engineer.

·         Take and Note down the Name, Address and Contact number of Service Engineer.

·         Make sure that the service charges and the rates of the Spare Parts are same for all his customers.

·         Always ask the company name, model number of the spare part that is being changed.
